Atlantic City Air Show Review and Pictures

Thunder Over the Boardwalk, 2007 Edition Atlantic City, NJ

The fifth annual Atlantic City Airshow, "Thunder Over the Boardwalk" went into the history books on August 15th, and by all accounts it was another rousing success. City estimates put the crowd at somewhere in the area of 500,000 people.

Atlantic City’s airshow has become the second-largest beachfront airshow in the country, ranking behind only Fort Lauderdale’s Air and Sea Show, which is typically held in the first week of May. Also, rumors are swirling regarding the 2008 airshow headliner. The Navy’s Blue Angels have expressed a strong interest in returning to AC after their special co-starring appearance with the Air Force’s Thunderbirds in 2006, which celebrated the Blues’ 60th anniversary. Those directly in the know on the topic say that the Blues want to return because of the high level of hospitality and professionalism associated with "Thunder Over the Boardwalk" and also due to the uniquely long show line (industry-speak for the length of airspace that the crowd has access to) that AC’s beach and Boardwalk present. While the usual land-based airshow typically uses a runway for a show line that is somewhere around 10,000 feet long (just under two miles), the four-mile strip of AC beach makes for a longer and thinner crowd line that in turn makes for more fun for the displaying pilots. Atlantic City’s reputation as an airshow city has also extended to the far North, as there is even interest on the part of Canada’s Snowbirds Demonstration Team in flying next year’s show. The Snowbirds are no stranger to Southern New Jersey, as they have flown at the Millville "Wheels and Wings" show in the last few years. No matter which US team pays a visit next year, the Snowbirds might still make an appearance, as they fly a handful of shows every year in the US, and they are often accompanied on the bill by an American jet team.

In an earlier post I promised a recap of the show along with some of my photography from show day. Wait no longer: the pictures are done and here for your viewing pleasure. Click her to view my best pictures for the Atlantic City Air Show!

Atlantic City Sports Betting? Yes or No

Should the Congress allow Sports Betting in Atlantic City if a bill is created and submitted?

First, let me say I'm a huge believer that legalized Sports Betting in Atlantic City will help to catapult the cities future growth.  Here are some valid reasons to support this statement:

#1 - With addition of Philadelphia Riverfront Casinos in 2007, slot parlors at Delaware Park and Philadelphia Park Race Tracks and a new casino being built in the Pennsylvania Pocono's, Atlantic City needs an edge to compete.  The largest number of bet's come in for the SuperBowl held each February.  January and February are the 2 slowest months for Atlantic City Casinos and hotel occupancy.  This will boost business for these winter slow periods.

#2 - Billions of dollars are being bet via Online Sports Books and illegal book makers on an annual basis, legalized Sports Betting in Atlantic City will take a large share of these bet's, AC would be the only place on the East Coast to make a legal sports bet.

#3 - The fact that New Jersey has sports teams and a large number of universities that would be exempt from betting is no big deal.  In Las Vegas several teams are removed from betting, ie UNLV etc.

In Closing, anyone supporting the Legalization of Atlantic City should rally behind the effort and reach out to Jeff Vandrew to see what he or she can do to help.  Let's take a stand and make something happen that will guarantee the growth of our ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.

Here's a few articles that also support Make Betting Legal + Legalized Sports Betting in Atlantic City + More Sports betting Info

Contact Jeff VanDrew Assemblyman for New Jersey and ask how you can help.

Thanks!

Steve Wynn and Donald Trump Atlantic City Partners?

Steve Wynn wants to bring Las Vegas style glitz and glamour to Atlantic City by teaming up with his former archrival Donald Trump for a $3 billion megaresort that could dominate the heart of the Boardwalk. “Steve and I are talking about something very exciting and very interesting,” Trump said in an interview Wednesday. “It would be great for the state of New Jersey and Atlantic City, but it's very preliminary.”Trump declined to disclose details, but people familiar with the plans said the aging Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino would be demolished to make way for a gigantic development project. It would encompass as many as four blocks of Boardwalk property from Missouri to Texas avenues and stretch out to Atlantic Avenue on the land side, at the foot of the Atlantic City Expressway. The Trump-Wynn casino project also would include a hotel tower rising 50 stories over the beachfront and perhaps an entertainment pier jutting far into the ocean. A new tunnel underneath Pacific Avenue would be considered as one of the roadway improvements needed to accommodate casino construction.Wynn, who is renowned for transforming the Las Vegas market with megacasinos such as Bellagio, Mirage and most recently the $2.7 billion Wynn Las Vegas, wants to make a spectacular return to Atlantic City. He left in 1987 after selling the Golden Nugget, now known as the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort. The Trump Plaza site would put Wynn in the middle of the Boardwalk and give him a prime spot off the expressway corridor, the main entrance into the city. Earlier, Wynn met with Gov. Jon S. Corzine to discuss the possibility of redeveloping the city's former Bader Field airport, but was told that site would take too long and prove too costly to convert for a casino.Although Trump says the two are good friends now, the casino titans were bitter enemies for years and opposed each other in earlier plans for casino and road projects in Atlantic City.“We'll see what happens,” Trump said. “If Steve and I got together, it would be really amazing. The combination would be an amazing thing for New Jersey and Atlantic City.Neither Wynn nor his company has commented on the Trump discussions. Wynn has been talking privately to Gormley since May about possibly returning to Atlantic City to be part of the resort's red-hot $5 billion-per-year gambling market.Trump and Wynn represent the biggest names in the casino industry. Trump is the chairman and largest individual shareholder of Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., owner of Trump Plaza, Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort and Trump Marina Hotel Casino. His status as a celebrity CEO has been solidified by his hit NBC reality show  “The Apprentice.”Atlantic City Casinos
