JERSEY STATE HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

MARCH 6, 7 & 8                        VARIOUS TIMES

The tournament is the highlight of the year for the sport of wrestling and is open to all New Jersey high schools. Competition begins Friday March 6 at 5 p.m. for preliminaries and pre-quarter finals. Quarter-finals and wrestle-backs I and II begin Saturday, Mar. 7 at 10 a.m.  Following the morning session, Boardwalk Hall will clear the facility and re-open doors at 4 p.m. for the 5 p.m. evening session of the semi-finals and wrestle-backs III and IV.  On Sunday, Mar. 8, competition begins at 10 a.m. for consolations, followed by the finals and awards ceremony at 2 p.m.  Doors open one hour prior to each session.  Single-session reserved tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors (62 and older).  A limited number of reserved tickets, good for all sessions, are available by calling the NJSIAA at 609-259-2776, or at the Boardwalk Hall Box Office.

EAT BULAGA

Eat Bulaga is the longest running noontime show in the Philippines. It started airing its very first episode on July 30, 1979 on RPN 9.  Now on its 29th year, the show is still an icon in launching trend-setter games as well as talent and personality-based searches. Today, Eat Bulaga boasts of an impressive cast of fun-loving hosts from all corners of the entertainment corridor, including Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon, Pia Guanio, Allan K, Jimmy Santos, Pauleen Luna, Lougee, Michael V and many more. ILYA AVERBUKH’S ICE SHOW II   

SATURDAY, APRIL 25              7:00 PM

“Ice Show”, a fantastically popular Russian TV series, will return to Boardwalk Hall with a fresh cast of skaters and pop stars.  Russia’s top pop stars are given a crash course in skating prior to the show. They are then paired with a dazzling cast of world-class figure skaters. Two teams emerge to compete on the show. “Ice Show” was developed by Russia’s premier television channel, Channel One, and launched in September 2007. In that short time, the event has cultivated an incredible following, with the live version touring extensively throughout Russia, Europe and Asia.  Tickets are priced at $300, $250, $200, $150, $125, $100, $75, and $50. 

 

APPRECIATION TOUR WITH MAZE FEATURING FRANKIE BEVERLY, TEENA MARIE AND THE WHISPERS

Combining a Philadelphia soul sound with a strong appreciation of Marvin Gaye, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly was among the top R&B acts of the late ’70s and ’80s. Their sound is distinctive, passionate, creative, soulful, and powerful and they have become one of the most influential groups in modern history. Teena Marie is a Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and producer. Nicknamed “Lady T”, she is a blue-eyed soul protegé of the late funk legend Rick James. She sings R&B with big, robust vocals, and is proficient on rhythm guitar. She also has written, produced, sung and arranged virtually all of her songs since her 1980 release “Irons in the Fire”. A new album, “Congo Square”, is due to be released early in 2009.  The Whispers are a veteran R&B quintet with an impressive 23-year legacy of R&B hits. After being their backbone and selling point since the group’s inception, twin lead vocalists Walter and Wallace Scott took time out for solo careers in 1993, but remain with the Whispers. A number of hit songs include “And the Beat Goes On,” “It’s A Love Thing,” “Lady, ” “Rock Steady,” and “Innocent”.  Ticket prices are $95, $80, $65 and $45 and go on sale Tuesday, December 23 at 12:00 noon. 

 

YANNI VOICES THE 2009 TOUR

“YANNI VOICES” is a brand new concert event featuring Yanni’s world-class orchestra from around the globe, and his four “voices” delivering a hypnotic, enchanting performance. In this, his Atlantic City debut, Yanni transports the audience into a world of romance, passion and sensuality with stunning choreography, magnificent costumes and dynamic imagery shown on enormous video screens that further enhance the experience. The Yanni Voices are: Nathan Pacheco has a voice that touches the bounds of human emotion. He writes his lyrics in Italian and combined with Yanni’s classic compositions, the result is pure magic. Chloe is the classic musical diva whose rich and versatile vocals allow her to capture the essence of the music she performs. Her youthful energy adds to the intense emotion of her compositions, and her voice instantly captivates the listener. 

Ender Thomas is the Latin sensation who brings his fiery style of performance to Yanni Voices. Writing in his native Spanish, Ender taps into his distinct and sensual Latin roots delivering intense and soulful interpretations of Yanni’s unique compositions. Leslie Mills possesses a very intricate writing style and stunning vocal abilities. Leslie’s voice reveals the passion of the songs she performs and opens a doorway for the listener to experience genuine heartfelt emotions. Ticket prices are $125, $95, $75, $55 and $25.
