In a time where sales are declining, and Atlantic City is taking hits left and right, more competition seems to be on the horizon…From Ohio.

Ohio voters passed a referendum which will legalize casinos in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Toledo, Ohio’s four biggest cities. Over the past 19 years Ohioans have voted down gambling proposals on four occasions. This year more than half of voters turned out in support of the referendum. The casino-friendly Ohio Jobs & Growth committee rallied for the referendum, insisting that the construction of the four casinos would bring 34,000 permanent jobs and 19,000 construction jobs starting next year. Ohio currently has an 11% unemployment rate.

But what does this mean for Atlantic City, which is also facing stiff competition from surrounding states that are looking to expand their gambling? Just this past September charter flights arrived from Cleveland, Akron, Columbus, and Youngstown with the majority of travelers looking to gamble at Atlantic City casinos. The South Jersey Transportation Authority which operates ACY does not have a hard breakdown of the number of charter passengers from Ohio, but did note that casinos have been lobbying for scheduled service from Chicago and midwest states to help bring more business to Atlantic City.

Sharon Gordon, Transportation Authority spokesperson, said on the subject, “Our target for opening up new destinations would be anything east of the Mississippi, a nice short flight to Atlantic City International.” Whether or not these efforts will be impeded by the vote in Ohio and whether these new casinos will have a negative impact on Atlantic City remains yet to be seen.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, comprised of lead singer, Karen O, guitarist Nick Zinner, and drummer, Brian Chase, will be live in Atlantic City, New Jersey on September 26th, 2009 at the Borgata Music Box. Known for their unique style and whimsical lyrics the Yeah Yeah Yeahs bring with them an atmosphere unlike most groups out today. The fact that Karen O really pours herself in to her lyrics as she sings them brings a level of depth and emotion to the songs you may have never previously felt without seeing her on stage renditions. Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ guitarist, Nick Zinner, is a very solid artist and nails everything as perfectly as you hear it on the CD, with that unique live twist that you expect to hear when seeing your favorite bands perform live. The drumming is also immaculate from Brian Chase, who bangs the rhythm of each song out with as much passion as Karen O puts in to her vocals.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs never disappoint their fans and the show on September 26th in Atlantic City at the Borgata promises to be as grand a performance as they’ve ever given. Score your tickets to one of the best and last shows of summer here, and don’t miss out.

It should be no surprise to anyone that there is a plethora of entertainment available at all hours of the day and night in the city that’s “Always Turned On,” Atlantic City; the boardwalk, the shops, and, of course, the gaming. However, it’s when the sun goes down that the party really starts; Major bands, comedians, and entertainers of all kinds from around the world playing at any one of the city’s great venues…and the clubs. If there is one thing Atlantic City is just as famous for as it’s gaming, it is the night clubs. In this article we’re going to explore some of the city’s most famous (and infamous) clubs and party spots.

The Deck at Trump Marina

Much like the city’s various “beach bars”, The Deck takes the party and moves it completely outdoors under the stars with a strong emphasis on live entertainment. Each night of the week is a different theme, with a different live act, and the best part is along with the great live music there are also great drink specials. If the Blues are your thing then get out to Bubba Mac Blues Night which is every Monday.

The Deck at Trump Marina is a hot spot for live entertainment.

Perhaps you’re really a cowboy at heart, or you just enjoy the sound of Country music, whatever the case Wednesdays are Country Night with live acts through the night. So if the The Deck sounds like it’s your speed, go check it out. There really is something for everybody all week long.

Gypsy Bar at the Borgata

If you’re feeling a bit more indoorsy then maybe you should check out Gypsy Bar located inside the Borgata Hotel & Casino. Dark, mysterious, laid back, and intimate are all words used to describe Gypsy Bar. Tucked away just off the casino floor, the two main attractions here are the lively & entertaining bartenders, and the great stage for live performances. Gypsy Bar always has a crowd, and there is often a line waiting to get in, but the bouncers do a good job of managing the line and as soon as there is room, they will let you in to the party. Don’t let the line deter you though, consider it a sign of just how good of a time awaits you inside Gypsy Bar.

MIXX at the Borgata

Also inside of the Borgata, MIXX is a complete diversion from both of the previous destinations. There is nothing quiet about MIXX, it’s a non-stop, high octane party all night long. While the lighting and atmosphere is spectacular on its own, what MIXX is really about is the music! Some of the best DJ’s on the club scene come to MIXX to spin the hottest tracks and keep your feet moving well in to the morning. You can also reserve VIP table service on the floor level, or in your own private skybox where you and up to 19 of your closest friends will be overlooking the dance floor, and a private bottle server will mix your drinks for you and your party all night no matter which option you choose.

EGO Bar & Lounge at Trump Taj Mahal

Finally, the EGO Bar & Lounge at Trump Taj Mahal gives you the best of the casino experience right inside the bar. EGO Bar & Lounge is the only bar with table games, which makes it a special attraction. You will also enjoy performances by The Angels, a group who performs covers of songs by the Pussycat Dolls, AC/DC, and others, Thursday through Sunday. Drink specials and delicious food combined with the live entertainment every night make this one of the go-to destinations in Atlantic City nightlife.

The Navy’s Blue Angels have expressed a strong interest in returning to AC after their special co-starring appearance with the Air Force’s Thunderbirds in 2006, which celebrated the Blues’ 60th anniversary. Those directly in the know on the topic say that the Blues want to return because of the high level of hospitality and professionalism associated with "Thunder Over the Boardwalk" and also due to the uniquely long show line (industry-speak for the length of airspace that the crowd has access to) that AC’s beach and Boardwalk present. While the usual land-based airshow typically uses a runway for a show line that is somewhere around 10,000 feet long (just under two miles), the four-mile strip of AC beach makes for a longer and thinner crowd line that in turn makes for more fun for the displaying pilots. Atlantic City’s reputation as an airshow city has also extended to the far North, as there is even interest on the part of Canada’s Snowbirds Demonstration Team in flying next year’s show.

Should the Congress allow Sports Betting in Atlantic City if a bill is created and submitted?

First, let me say I'm a huge believer that legalized Sports Betting in Atlantic City will help to catapult the cities future growth. Here are some valid reasons to support this statement:

#1 - With addition of Philadelphia Riverfront Casinos in 2007, slot parlors at Delaware Park and Philadelphia Park Race Tracks and a new casino being built in the Pennsylvania Pocono's, Atlantic City needs an edge to compete. The largest number of bet's come in for the SuperBowl held each February. January and February are the 2 slowest months for Atlantic City Casinos and hotel occupancy. This will boost business for these winter slow periods.

#2 - Billions of dollars are being bet via Online Sports Books and illegal book makers on an annual basis, legalized Sports Betting in Atlantic City will take a large share of these bet's, AC would be the only place on the East Coast to make a legal sports bet.

#3 - The fact that New Jersey has sports teams and a large number of universities that would be exempt from betting is no big deal. In Las Vegas several teams are removed from betting, ie UNLV etc.

In Closing, anyone supporting the Legalization of Atlantic City should rally behind the effort and reach out to Jeff Vandrew to see what he or she can do to help. Let's take a stand and make something happen that will guarantee the growth of our ATLANTIC CITY, NJ.
